WHAT SEEMED TO BE THE PROBLEM?
Graduate Attributes at UCC was developed as an exciting new initiative which focussed on guiding students as they transition into, through and out of college, and assisting them with the challenges posed by University life. We were approached initially to create a visual identity for the programme, giving it it’s own voice while staying true to the over-arching UCC brand guidelines. There-in lies the challenge, creating an identity which could stand alone and be friendly but reassuring in it’s appearance and tone, while also communicating with college collateral if and when needed.

Beginning with an evaluation of the proposed services and offering of the Programme, we began to pull on elements from the UCC brand guidelines that we felt would clearly and effectively communicate the vision of the Graduate Attributes Programme, while also being visually obviously UCC. We adopted the strategy that whatever we did, it needed to break the mould and cut through the noise in order to reach the target audience and get buy-in from the many stakeholders at the University. To go with this we devised a set a characters to represent the diverse study body of UCC, as well as custom illustrated maps of the campus and surrounding areas which include over 40 buildings and monuments.
…AND WE DID!
The buy-in to the programme has been transformational, and Graduate Attributes has already cemented itself as cornerstone of student life at UCC. While our relationship with Graduate Attributes began with just a visual Identity project, it has extended far beyond this and has included award-winning work on a ground-breaking virtual reality tour of UCC and it’s 4 colleges, numerous instructional videos, animated character features, programme launches, merchandise, posters. Graduate Attributes has a unique and considerable voice within UCC, and an identity to match!
